BullGuard Internet Security 12 -3 Months Trial Subscription

The best part of this suite is its real-time protection against malware attack. The flexible online and local backup system is also nice. But many of the other components just aren't up to snuff.
BullGuard Internet Security is a complete internet security solution – it protects you and your computer from all online threats: identity theft, credit card fraud, hackers, viruses, spyware and many more. At first glance, the only difference between BullGuard's latest security suite and the corresponding antivirus is the color scheme. BullGuard’s suite uses red; its antivirus, orange. Both greet the user with the simple message "Your computer is safe." But when you dig into BullGuard Internet Security Suite 12 ($59.95 direct for three licenses) you'll find there's quite a bit more to it.

After clicking Run from the main window you can run two kinds of virus scan, launch a backup, or tune up your PC. Clicking Control Panel gives you detailed control over the suite's features. A separate settings window lets you dig deeper into configuration. However, the suite's out-of-box configuration needs very little tweaking.

Uneven Malware Protection

The suite's malware protection parallels that of the standalone antivirus product, which means it's much better at blocking fresh attacks than at cleaning up existing infestations. I'll summarize my test results here. For full details please read my review of BullGuard Antivirus 12 ($24.95 direct, 3 stars).

BullGuard's detection rate of 71 percent in the malware cleanup test sets a new low for current products. With 4.9 points overall for malware removal, BullGuard is tied for last place with Outpost Security Suite Pro 7.5 ($49.95 direct for three licenses, 2 stars). Its detection rate and score for rootkit removal were also very low. The only bright spot was a 9.5 point score for cleaning out scareware. The article How We Test Malware Removal explains how I come up with these scores.
